Why "Full Correction" Isn't Always the Goal with Shoe Lifts
Step Rite Shoe Lifts
Many clinicians correct a large or recent difference in stages so the back and hips adapt gradually, and some leave a small amount uncorrected on purpose. Follow the number you were given, and plan a remeasure. The lift height on a shoe can be raised later.
Why stage it
A body that has walked tilted for years has muscles and joints set to that tilt. Leveling it all at once can trade one set of aches for another. Raising the lift in steps lets the back and hips catch up.
One patient's staging
A member of a hip replacement forum described her surgeon starting her at one inch when the measured difference was closer to two, with a decision on the rest at six months. That is a normal plan, and it is the surgeon's call.
What staging means for your shoes
Two paths. Send the same shoe back and we raise the lift to the new number. Or pick the next pair from the store and we build it to the new number before it ships. Most people do the second, because the first pair is usually due for replacement by the time the remeasure comes around.
